Acne Scaring
Facial acne scars and pitting often become more pronounced as you mature. However, no matter how old you are or how long you've had the scarring, several methods of treatment are available.
Dr. Andrée Mathieu-Serra has developed an integrated approach that combines several methods of treatment for acne scarring:
- Laser Candella V Beam
- Microdermabrasion
- Microsurgery for deep scarring
- Resurfacing with Erbium laser
- Artecoll injections
- Collagen injections
An evaluation of your skin type as well as the extent and depth of your scars, will enable the doctor to prescribe a personalized treatment plan, generally in several phases.
Candella V-Beam laser is used to eliminate redness and improve the suppleness and elasticity of scarred skin. Three sessions are usually required at 4 week intervals.
MICRODERMABRASION - used to reduce the depth of superficial scarring: 2 to 6 sessions repeated at intervals of 6 weeks or more.
Scars that are deep and round (pitting called ice pick scars) do not respond to microdermabrasion or to Erbium laser treatment and must be removed and sutured approximately six weeks before Erbium laser resurfacing.
ERBIUM LASER resurfacing is the ideal treatment for smoothing over surface scarring after removal of deep scars. Depending on skin type there should be a 40% improvement after treatment. A second session may be needed 6 to 12 months later.
When the skin is supple ARTECOLL injections can greatly reduce the depth of acne scars, with immediate, long-lasting, and sometimes even permanent results. This is a simple, painless intervention requiring no period of convalescence. In the final phase, COLLAGEN injections will be used for any remaining superficial blemishes to attain a smooth skin texture. This quick and simple intervention is repeated every 4 to 12 months for increasingly durable results.
